Art Practice
My art practice sits at the intersection of visual art, community engagement, and social impact. Through painting, textile design, mural works, and sustainable interior design, I explore themes of identity, resilience, and transformation.
Each creative project is approached with a sense of honesty and curiosity, looking for what feels authentic, what will last, and what will bring meaningful change for years to come. The result is work that doesn't chase trends, but grows more beautiful with time.
From large-scale murals in community centers to intimate textile collections, my practice bridges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary social engagement, creating spaces and objects that empower communities and celebrate cultural heritage.
Visual Art
Paintings
My paintings explore themes of identity, community, and resilience. Working primarily with acrylics and mixed media, I create works that tell stories of transformation and hope, often drawing from my experiences working with street-connected children and marginalized communities in Uganda.
Sketchbook Journaling
Daily sketchbook practice serves as both documentation and meditation. These intimate works capture moments from community workshops, travel, and personal reflection, creating a visual diary that informs larger works and preserves memories of the communities I serve.
Mural Works
Large-scale murals transform public spaces into sites of community pride and cultural expression. Collaborating with local communities, I design and execute murals that celebrate heritage, tell local stories, and create lasting visual landmarks that inspire and unite neighborhoods.
Recycled Art Sculptures
Environmental consciousness meets creative expression in my recycled art sculptures. Using found materials and waste, I create three-dimensional works that challenge perceptions of value and beauty while promoting sustainable practices and environmental awareness.
Fashion & Textile Design
Ntunga Collections
The Ntunga Program collections showcase the work of 90+ women trained through Streetlights Uganda's fashion and design program. These collections blend traditional Ugandan textile techniques with contemporary design, creating wearable art that supports economic empowerment and celebrates cultural heritage.
KCCA Award-Winning Costumes
Recognized with the Best Costume Designer award at the 2015 KCCA Carnival, my costume designs merge theatrical storytelling with cultural authenticity. These works demonstrate how fashion can serve as a powerful medium for cultural expression and community celebration.
Custom Wearable Art
Each piece of wearable art is designed to tell a story, whether through pattern, color, or form. These custom creations bridge the gap between art and function, allowing wearers to express their identity while supporting sustainable and ethical fashion practices.
Interior Design
VM Interiors Africa
Through VM Interiors Africa, I lead eco-centric design projects that integrate sustainable materials, community-made elements, and ecological principles. Each project is approached holistically, considering environmental impact, community benefit, and aesthetic beauty.
Our design philosophy centers on creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also sustainable, culturally responsive, and economically empowering for local communities. We work with local artisans, use locally-sourced materials, and design spaces that reflect the cultural identity of the communities they serve.
Process & Philosophy
My creative process begins with deep listening—to communities, to materials, to the stories that need to be told. I believe that art should serve a purpose beyond aesthetics, whether that's healing trauma, creating economic opportunity, or building community identity.
Every project is collaborative, involving community members in the creative process. This participatory approach ensures that the work authentically represents the communities it serves while building skills, confidence, and economic opportunities for participants.
Sustainability is not an afterthought but a core principle. From using recycled materials in sculptures to sourcing local textiles for fashion collections, environmental responsibility is woven into every aspect of my practice.
